9–14 September 2008, Warsaw, POLAND:  Evidence–based Nutrition: From Requirements to Recommendations and Policies An advanced course for younger scientists

This course is organised by EURRECA partners:
The Department of Human Nutrition of Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW), Poland http://wnzck.sggw.pl/ http://www.sggw.pl
and
The Division of Human Nutrition of Wageningen University, The Netherlands http://www.humannutrition.wur.nl/UK/

Background
Although the scientific evidence on nutrient requirements is universal, micronutrient recommendations vary considerably between European countries. The process of collation and judging the scientific evidence will be elaborated, with a specific focus on dietary assessment methodology, strengthening the scientific evidence base and incorporating this in development of food and nutrition policies.

Objective
The Course is based on the experiences of the biannual “Nutritional and Lifestyle Epidemiology Course” organised by the Graduate School VLAG in the Netherlands. It lets younger, less experienced scientists from Eastern and Central Europe and other countries improve their research qualifications and general knowledge in the field of nutrition and epidemiology, and makes it easier for them to get involved in international research programmes. Moreover, special topics on the research policy cycle will be useful for representatives of policy makers and consumer organizations.

Course outline
The programme will comprise lectures, computer assisted exercises, and group assignments. Most of the methodological topics will be illustrated by applications in current research.

Target group
Young scientists in the field of nutrition and public health, policy makers, consumer organizations and
nutritionist in food industry.

The Course will be delivered in English.

The course will take place in Warsaw University of Life Sciences-SGGW, Warsaw, Poland
