35 participants from 15 countries, including Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Poland, Macedonia and Serbia, took part in the joint NCDNCEE/EURRECA training held as part of the 5th UNU/SCN Capacity Development meeting in Belgrade Serbia 11-12 November 2009. In addition to a report on Capacity Development in CEE countries given by Mirjana Gurinovic of IMR, delegates heard from Barbara Burlingame of FAO, Arne Oshaug from Norway and Pieter van’t Veer of Wageningen and together looked at some of the challenges of developing nutrition education and tools in the CEE area.
The meeting provided EURRECA with a valuable opportunity to engage with representatives from the CEE countries, from whom there is a huge appetite for the work EURRECA is doing on Micronutrients recommendations. EURRECA provided a dedicated training session on media communications, an activity in which many participants with to develop their own understanding and competence.
